Pedestrian Killed by Garbage Truck

A pedestrian has been killed after city garbage truck struck them at a West Houston intersection on Monday morning according to the Houston Chronicle.

According to police, the fatal crash happened approximately 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Bellaire and Gesner. Police captain William McPherson, who oversees the vehicular crimes unit of the Houston Police Department indicated during a press conference that the driver of the garbage truck did not realize that she had been involved in a crash until another motorist flagged them down

Captain McPherson said the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal crash. Their name has not yet been released.

Police are still looking for the driver who flagged down the driver of the garbage truck. That motorist left before police officers arrived on the scene. Police are querying businesses located near the intersection for possible surveillance video that could help identify the motorist.

The crash left personal items including a cellphone and cart strewn about the street. Authorities are unsure whether the victim was pushing a cart to or from a nearby grocery store or was possibly one of the city’s homeless who was living on the streets.
