Construction Accidents can happen at Any Time

Local station KTRK reports that a man died due to a piece of heavy equipment at a construction site ran over him. Early in the morning, two workers were moving a piece of equipment and one person backed over the other one accidentally. The area was poorly lit and muddy, and the police are treating it as a workplace accident. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 1,800 people died due to transportation accidents like these. Over half of those were highway related.

This is a tragedy, and it is one that is repeated quite often. No matter how many safety precautions people take, there is always the chance for a major accident. Organizations like OSHA are designed to solve safety problems to prevent accidents like these, but unfortunately the easiest way to find a problem is to have someone injured or killed by it. There are legitimate unforeseen accidents, but sometimes these accidents aren’t caused by something unknown. Employers sometimes provide faulty safety equipment or training in the pursuit of greater profits, only to lose it in court when someone gets injured. Even workers take shortcuts in the name of speed and can end up injured or killed trying to keep up with their workload.

Getting injured on the job doesn’t just hurt you, but also hurts your family and your future earning potential.
