Crazy Crash Caught On Camera
Accidents involving large over the road trucks can be terrifying. Motorists who were on Highway 290 in Northwest Houston found out just how scary such accidents can be after an 18-wheeler crashed into a passenger vehicle, causing it to crash into another vehicle.
KPRC Channel 2 News reported on its website that a 23-second video from another motorist’s dashcam captured the accident as it happened on Wednesday, July 9th. Video footage of the incident shows an eastbound semi-tractor trailer rig switching lanes, bumping into a black Ford Focus. In a chain reaction, the Ford Focus spins out of control and hits an SUV in the far right lane.
Houston Police officers who were at the scene of the crash say that the driver of the Ford Focus was checked out at by emergency crews. They declined medical treatment and will see their own personal physician instead.
Two people who were in the SUV at the time of the crash were transported by ambulance to Hermann Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured in the accident.
Investigators with the HPD say that although the driver of the truck didn’t see the Focus because it was in his blind spot, he will be cited for changing lanes when unsafe.
“You never know when somebody else is going to change lanes. You always want to drive defensively, especially around commercial motor vehicles,” said Sgt. Thomas Fendia, with the Houston Police Department’s Vehicle Crimes Division.
Sgt. Fendia further also advises motorists to keep a safe distance between their vehicles and large commercial trucks. He believes that drivers can stay safer on the road by driving behind 18-wheelers, in front of them or in another lane.
