Illegal Street Race Results In Three Deaths, Including Two Teens
Over the past 100-plus years, since the invention of the automobile, we’ve continued to invent safer cars, adding features like seat belts, airbags, hidden collision-safety features, and even AI-assisted braking and steering capabilities. And yet, at the same time, we continue to build cars that are faster and more powerful than before. Customers and car enthusiasts want bigger engines, more acceleration, and more speed. Add to that the hunger for speed illegal street racers are unable to ignore, and we have the perfect storm, ready to cause injury and property damage and needlessly take lives.
This is exactly what happened last Sunday in Brookshire, Texas, according to this report from Click 2 Houston. An illegal street race led to an accident which resulted in the deaths of three pedestrians, two of which were teenaged brothers. their mother now mourns their tragic passing.
The two boys happened to be watching the cars at a meet when two of the drivers decided to race each other. During this illegal street race, one of the vehicles, a 2018 Chevy Camaro, driven by a 22-yar-old Andrew Mock, struck the left-rear of a black 2017 Chevy Malibu. This caused the Malibu to leave the roadway and drive right into a crowd of pedestrians. The two teens, another pedestrian, 35, were hit and died from their injuries.
The community now mourns with the boys’ mother, who has spoken against the injustice of this tragedy. The driver of the Camaro, Mock, has been charged in connection with the crash.
