Man Bitten by Police Dog after Evading The Law

A man has been taken into custody after he attempted to elude police on the West side of Houston. According to Houston Police officials, a man was driving his Mitsubishi northbound on Highway 6 when he ran a red light near Westheimer. He was spotted by Houston Police, and attempted to evade officers who were in pursuit. The suspect managed to crash his SUV in a nearby neighborhood and attempted to flee on foot. After a search that lasted nearly an hour, a police dog found the suspect and bit him before the man surrendered himself to HPD officers. Houston Police Department officials speculate that the man attempted to avoid being stopped because he was intoxicated at the time. The suspect will be charged with driving while intoxicated and also with felony evasion. Driving under the influence of alcohol is never a good idea. The State of Texas considers the issue of drunk driving to be very serious crime. In the United States, drunk driving is the leading cause of fatal car accidents each year. Strict sentences are handed out to those who do decide to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. In Texas, the legal blood alcohol level for driver who holds a general driver’s license to operate a vehicle is below 0.08%. For truck drivers or for holders of a standard driver’s license, and the legal limit is set at 0.04% or below. The lower limit for commercial driver’s license holders is the law in all 50 States, and must adhere to it even if they are driving standard vehicles. A driver convicted of DUI, even with a first time offense, can be facing a sentence that means years in jail, the high price of heavy fines, being required to perform many hours of community service, having to face paying reparation and damages as well as loss of license, insurance coverage or both.
