Massive Pileup Occurs On Gulf Freeway
ABC Channel 13 Eyewitness News reported recently that a 10-car pileup occurred on Sunday evening, on the first night of Winter Storm Uri, along the Interstate 45 Gulf Freeway just south of downtown Houston.
According to officials from the Houston Fire Department as well as representatives of the Houston Police Department, a major traffic accident was reported on the I-45 Gulf Freeway, just south of the downtown area of Houston, on the evening of Sunday, February 14, 2021, Valentine’s Day. While there were no injuries reported, the damage to the involved vehicles was in several cases quite severe and created a mess out of the roadway, rendering multiple lanes impassable.
This wasn’t the only pileup in Houston that evening; earlier on Sunday night, a multiple-vehicle pileup occurred on Beltway 8 near the Hardy Toll Road on the northside of Houston. The wreck was cleared by Harris County Toll Road Authority officials and there is no word on injuries from that incident.
The Harris County Sheriff, Houston Police Department chief, and other officials called for the public to stay home and stay off the roads, noting that as of 10:30 p.m. there had already been 134 accidents due to the weather conditions that day.
