One Dead In 18-Wheeler Crash

Being safe on our nation’s roadways also means being aware of any potential dangers or the potential for an accident to occur. Large commercial trucks or big rigs can cause serious injuries or even fatalities. Sadly, a fiery crash involving an 18-wheeler which happened on Monday has left one person dead.

According to an article appearing on the Chron.com website, a spokesperson for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department indicated that the accident happened in the 12600 block of T C Jester Boulevard. The crash location is near the Silver Glenn North neighborhood, just north of Spears Road.

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies said in a story reported by Houston’s ABC 13 that the driver slammed into the guardrail, causing the 18-wheeler to burst into flames. The driver of the big rig was thrown from the cab of his rig, covered in flames himself. The driver was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released his identity, pending notification of family members.

Eyewitnesses say that the truck had been traveling at a high rate of speed and driving erratically and strayed across multiple lanes just prior to the crash. Investigators have not determined whether the driver had been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash or if he may have been distracted or had suffered a medical issue at the time of the fatal accident.

The accident is still under investigation.
