Parking Lot Hit-and-Run Injures Three

download (90)Three people were injured in a hit and run accident that happened in a parking lot located in northwest Houston.

According to authorities, after visiting a local pub, at approximately 2:15 a.m., the three victims had been standing in the parking lot of a shopping center located at FM 529 and North Eldridge Parkway when a man driving a large four-door pickup truck came barreling through the parking lot and struck the three bystanders. The driver fled the scene of the accident without stopping.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and all three of the victims, whose names have not yet been released, were transported to an area hospital. Two of the victims are listed in stable condition, while a third is listed in serious condition.

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies later found the driver of the pickup truck at a nearby restaurant. Deputies determined that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The driver, whose identity has also not been released, was arrested and will possibly be facing charges of vehicular assault and other related charges.

It shouldn’t be a dangerous undertaking any time someone chooses to go out and enjoy a few drinks with good friends. Taking reasonable care to designate a driver or to walk home to make sure everyone is alright after a night of celebrations should be enough to ensure that you won’t get into an accident.

Unfortunately, even if you are being responsible there are drivers who get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle who have been drinking. Alcohol slows reaction time, alters perception and can cause someone to do something that they might not do otherwise – like leaving the scene of an accident when another person has been seriously injured.
