Street Racing Blamed for Fatal Crash
An apparent incident of street racing may have been responsible for an area crash involving a Baptist minister and his wife in a two-car accident on Tuesday night in northwest Harris County.
According to Harris County Sheriff’s Department investigators, the two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. in the 4900 block of North Sam Houston Parkway West near Bammel North Houston.
Eyewitnesses told investigators that the driver of a Chevrolet pickup had been racing the driver of a Dodge Charger in between traffic lights in the westbound lanes of Sam Houston Parkway frontage road.
Sgt. S. Wolverton of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that as the two vehicles sped toward Bammel North Houston, the Dodge driver stopped at a red light but the pickup driver ran the red light and smashed into a BMW 330 that had been traveling southbound on Bammel North Houston.
The driver of the pickup truck jumped out of his vehicle and fled the scene of the fatal crash. No information is available about the driver of the Dodge.
The two victims in the crash have been identified as Jesse Estrada Sabillon and Maria Sabillon. Both victims died at the scene of the accident.
