Tesla Drunk Driver Strikes Police Car, Injuring Officers And A Civilian
Several officers in Montgomery County were injured, along with one civilian and a police dog, when a drunk driver slammed his Teslas into a pulled-over police car, causing a chain-reaction crash early Saturday morning, according to this report from Click 2 Houston.
This crash happened at about 1:15 on the night of Friday-Saturday. An officer with the Splendora Police Department along with several deputy constables were conducting a traffic stop on the Eastex Freeway near East River Road when the crash happened. A Tesla, driven by an allegedly drunk driver, was traveling northbound when it collided with a patrol vehicle, causing a multi-car chain-reaction crash that involved two other patrol cars and one civilian car.
As a result of this crash, the civilian that had been pulled over in the original traffic stop sustained serious injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Several constable deputies and one police K9 also sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Tesla was not injured. There was no indication that the driver had slowed down before striking the first patrol car, meaning the crash involved a great deal of property damage in addition to the long list of people injured.
The driver of the Tesla was arrested at the scene under suspicion of driving under the influence and intoxicated assault.
