Vehicle Crashes Over Embankment, One In Critical Condition
One person is in the hospital after crash their vehicle over an embankment on Westlake Drive last Wednesday afternoon, according to this report from KXAN.
The call came in at about 1:50 in the early afternoon to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office that a vehicle had fallen off the edge of the roadway and was now sitting in several feet of water. Emergency personnel responded immediately since it was not known if the driver was still alive and possibly trapped in the vehicle. It was also not known at the time if other people were in the vehicle.
Upon arrival, Austin-Travis County EMS and Westlake Fire Department workers found that the vehicle had indeed fallen about 200 feet over the embankment, landing in several feet of water. Fortunately, there was only one person in the vehicle, and they were still alive. This happened in the 1800 block of Westlake Drive last Wednesday afternoon.
The driver was carefully retrieved from the crash site, alive but in a condition Austin-Travis EMS refers to as “trauma alert”. The victim, suffering from serious injuries, was rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center. The patient had serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, a tow truck had to be called to get the vehicle out of the watery embankment area. Drivers were asked to avoid the area while officials cleaned up the wreckage and investigated the crash.
