Young Child Dies In Head-On Collision

No matter the circumstances, every parent’s worst nightmare is to tragically lose a child. On Friday, June 8th, such a tragedy unfolded in Houston when an 11-year-old was killed in a head-on- accident.

According to an article appearing on the Chron.com website, at approximately 9:00 p.m. a family of five was traveling southbound on Wirt near Hammerly when a pickup truck attempting to turn left onto Hammerly struck the family’s vehicle in a head-on crash. All of the family members were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The 11-year-old died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The other members of the family are currently listed in stable condition.

The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene of the crash. Investigating officers had no reason to believe that the driver had been intoxicated or otherwise driving while impaired and he was later released.

Authorities have not released any names in connection with the case. No charges are pending following the initial crash.

A secondary crash occurred when a possible drunken driver slammed his vehicle into a Houston Police Department Cruiser. No one was injured in the crash. The driver of the second vehicle did attempt to flee the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended. Authorities have not said whether the driver in the second accident had been drinking at the time of the crash.
