A construction worker has died on a job site in College Station at approximately 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police say that 49-year old, Armando Gonzalez of Bryan was killed when a 1,5000 pound, 20 foot long shoring panel being installed at a wastewater lift station crushed Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, an employee of Elliott Construction, was at a site in the 8800 block of Burgess Lane off Texas 47 at the Texas A&M Health Science Center, when one the shoring panels that are used to hold up the walls gave way. According Lt. Timothy Sullivan of the College Station Fire Department, hen the shoring panel gave way it trapping Gonzalez inside a hole that was between 30 and 40 feet deep.

Firefighters and 8- 10 first responders used high-pressure bags designed for heavy lifting to create space between the shoring and the ground and other heavy equipment used for lifting already on the job site in an attempt to free the man. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. Gonzalez’ body was retrieved at 7:25 p.m. and was taken to Trevino-Smith Funeral Home in Bryan.
