Man Crushed by METRORail Cars

How much safety is enough safety at railway stations? Due to the high volume of passengers, most rail stations do not have guard rails between the railway and the platform. This poses a great hazard because anyone could fall in and get hit by a train.

That’s what happened in downtown Houston recently. A METRORail train at Main and Rusk struck a pedestrian that fell down onto the tracks. Several of the wheels ran over the man’s leg before the train could come to a stop. The man was conscious and alert when he was taken to the hospital.

What was the reason that the man fell? Was it distraction, possible intoxication, or perhaps inadequate safety features at this stop? It is up to investigators to find out. If the train company is discovered to have been negligent in keeping up safety at a platform, it could open them up to a lawsuit.
