A rollover crash can have serious consequences. In recent years, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that approximately 33% of passenger vehicle accidents that occur annually resulted in at least one fatality in a rollover crash.
Recently, the Houston Chronicle reported on its website about a rollover accident that happened on Monday, March 25th in Duval County, located in southern Texas. The crash left four people dead, and an additional six others injured near Corpus Christi while trying to flee from authorities. All of those involved in the accident were foreign nationals.
A spokesman with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Sgt. Nathan Brandley said in a statement that an SUV that was occupied by 11 people had been heading eastbound on County Road 245 when it crashed on Monday.
When a person is in a desperate situation, sometimes they will take risks that may be dangerous or even deadly. That may have been what happened when deputies with the Duval County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver refused to stop and tried to elude authorities, reaching what Duval County Sheriff’s deputies called “an unsafe speed.”
The driver lost control of the SUV between Duval County Road 245 and Texas State Route 399, approximately 70 miles southwest of Corpus Christi.
Brandley indicated that the vehicle rolled numerous times before finally coming to a rest. Killed in the crash were a Salvadoran man and a Salvadoran woman, an Ecuadorian man and a Mexican man. Three men and three women were taken to an area hospital for treatment and were all listed in serious condition.
