Police have arrested two people after a chase through the Katy area on Tuesday afternoon.
Click2Houstonreports that the Houston Police Department received a report of an assault in progress on Tuesday, September 29th, at approximately 11:30 a.m.
As officers came upon the scene, one of the suspects fled near the intersection of Kuykendall Road and West Rankin Road. Police followed in pursuit of the suspect around the Katy area.
According to the statement issued by Houston Police spokesperson, Lt. Bridget Lummus, the officers reported a man, a woman fled the scene in a car. There were two victims who had been pistol-whipped in their company.
Lummus said that several Houston Police units pursued the suspect that went onto the westbound lanes of Interstate 10. The chase continued to an exit near Highway 6. Woman Charged with Intoxication Manslaughter on Katy Freeway
One woman is dead and another woman has been arrested and charged for causing the wrong way crash on the Katy Freeway early Tuesday. According to the Houston Police Department report, Brittini Kressin, age 26, was driving a silver Chevrolet Cavalier. She entered the eastbound exit ramp of the Katy Freeway to North Durham going the wrong way around midnight. Kressin struck a blue Toyota Corolla in its rear side, then continued driving until she struck a motorcycle rider. The victim in the Corolla, a 20-year-old woman who had been riding in the back seat, was taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The victim’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences and notification of family. The motorcyclist who was involved in the accident was sent to the hospital to with a broken leg, police said. Kressin was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for minor injuries. She was taken into custody and then to jail after exhibiting signs of being intoxicated. Kressin has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. It is unfortunate that driving while intoxicated is on the rise on today’s roadways. It is a sad truth that drinking and driving can lead to tragedies such as this.
No one imagines that they will ever be the one who will be involved in an automobile accident that ends in death. While tragedies on the road can happen at any time, avoiding drinking and driving is one of the best ways to help insure that such a tragedy doesn’t happen to you. It is one of the surest ways where choice plays a definite factor in prevention of an accident. The National Transportation Safety Board in May of 2013 made a recommendation that states lower the threshold for driving while intoxicated to a blood-alcohol content of .05. In the State of Texas, as with many other states in the country, the current legal blood alcohol level that anyone can have to operate a vehicle is .08.
The legal limit for truck drivers and all other holders of commercial licenses, however, has already been lowered to that of .04. When a person dies as a result of the actions of a DUI driver, the charge is elevated to that of intoxication manslaughter. This is an even more serious crime than intoxication assault and it is a second-degree felony. Intoxication manslaughter is punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 and a prison sentence of between 2 and 20 years. A driver convinced of intoxication manslaughter may also face 240 to 800 hours of community service, according to the judge’s recommendation.
