2 Semis and 3 Cars Collide
Two people are reported to have been injured in a five vehicle crash on Highway 146 early Monday. According to the Houston TranStar, the crash was reported near FM 518 around 8:09 a.m., where police said that two 18-wheelers and three smaller vehicles were involved. Hazmat crews were summoned to the crash site to deal with diesel fuel that had spilled from one of the wrecked 18-wheelers. Police have not yet given a cause for the crash; however, there was a dense fog advisory in place at the time of the accident for most of southeast Texas. Accidents can happen on a highway, interstate or freeway for any number of reasons. When weather is hazardous or visibility is difficult, it can be just the right set of conditions for an accident to occur. When an 18-wheeler semi-tractor trailer rig is involved in an accident, the results can be devastating or even deadly. National statistics show that each year thousands of motorists are either critically injured or killed in accidents involving big rigs. Drivers of 18 wheelers are often carrying over-sized loads and such large, and cumbersome loads that take a great deal of room to safely transport can put the driving public at risk. Drivers of passenger vehicles are at a size and power disadvantage and when going against the larger vehicles, they are often the losers of the battle.
