Big Rig Plunges off Freeway
Wednesday morning a big rig plunged off the road onto the Eastex Freeway. While the exact reason for the crash is unclear, it appears that the truck veered into the guardrail while attempting to move onto the freeway from an on ramp. It then rode the guardrail for eighty plus yards. At that point it broke through the barrier on the edge of the over pass. It caught and dangled briefly before plunging almost fifty feet to strike the road below. The driver was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries, though officials report that he was conscious and speaking to firefighters as they extracted him from the damaged cab of the truck. No other vehicles were damaged in the accident, though damage was done to both the overpass and the freeway below.
