Accidents involving trains and automobiles can be devastating. Because of the size, speed and sheer weight of an oncoming train, many are tragically injured or even killed in such accidents. When you are coming upon a set of railroad tracks, always be certain to stop before crossing the tracks and look to see if a train is coming. If you hear a train signal, stop if the crossing arms are down. You should never attempt to go around a set of train crossing arms, or attempt to outrun a train. Because it is often difficult to tell just how fast an oncoming locomotive is travelling, such carelessness can cause an accident. Having to wait for a few minutes for a train to go by isn’t worth risking your life or the lives of others.
