Dark Road Makes Police Officer Accidentally Hit Teen

A Harris County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in an accident that struck a 15-year-old pedestrian on the east side of Spring early Wednesday. According to officials from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at around 6:20 a.m. in the 2300 block of Spring Creek Drive. In a statement, a spokesman said the teen boy suffered injuries to his face, neck, and right arm. The youth was sent to Memorial Hermann Hospital by Life Flight. The teen’s condition is not currently known. Witnesses say that the victim was walking with two or three other students to a Spring I.S.D. bus stop when he was struck by the law enforcement cruiser. No other students were injured. The portion of the road where the teen was hit has no sidewalk and no street lights. The three students had been walking in the street just prior to the accident. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Division is investigating the accident. This student could very well have been hit on that roadway not because they did anything wrong to cause the accident, but rather because of poor road design. If a road or street has had previous issues with poor design, improper construction, improper or inadequate or non-existent lighting, signage, signals or any other kind of defects these can be a contributing factor in the cause of an accident that results in serious injuries or even death. Liabilities can be traced to a privately owned road construction companies who have constructed the roadway or street. These liabilities can also be traced to cities or even to the state or federal government.
