Deputy Struck by Drunk Driver
A man is facing DUI and intoxication assault charges after he hit the car of an off-duty deputy near the North Freeway at the North loop late Thursday. According to official reports, the accident happened around 10:30 p.m. when a Precinct One deputy was on his way home from work. The officer pulled over into the right shoulder emergency lane because he said that he was not feeling well. As the deputy pulled over and stopped, a vehicle driven by a suspected drunken driver, slammed into the back of the officer’s car. The deputy was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital and is listed in serious condition. The driver of the other vehicle and a female passenger were also taken to the hospital. They are listed in stable condition. Officials state that the district attorney’s office has accepted intoxication assault charges for the driver.
