Drunk Driving Claims Lives
A major accident has left a 42-year-old man dead and his son in critical condition after their car and another vehicle had a head-on collision on Saturday night Montgomery County. According to the Texas Department of Public safety officers who arrived on the scene at the 2600 block of FM 2978, the Magnolia Fire Department was already in the process of removing the victims from the vehicles involved in the crash. All three victims were airlifted in critical condition via two Life Flight helicopters. The first helicopter held the victims of the 2003 SUV, a 42-year-old Tomball man and his 15-year-old son. They were flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston. The man died upon arrival at the hospital. The second helicopter transported 21-year-old driver of a 1997 Nissan, Piper Landon of The Woodlands to Memorial Hospital, who is also listed in critical condition. According to Department of Public Safety Officer, Sgt. Terry Barnhill, the driver of the Subaru SUV was driving south on FM 2978 when the Nissan, travelling north was being driven by Landon crossed the center line and into the path of the Subaru, causing the head-on collision. According to Barnhill, it is believed that alcohol did play a part in the accident. Even the rumble strips that run along the center line on FM 2978 to alert drivers that they have crossed into the other lane were unable to prevent the crash. There was a five hour investigation at the scene of the accident by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Vehicular Crimes Unit that attempted to reconstruct what happened at the time of the accident.
