Dump Truck Accident Leads to Fatality

In another accident, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a dump truck in Houston this week. It happened around rush hour near the corner of Stella Link and Bellaire. The blue dump truck was traveling north and attempted to make a right hand turn. A pedestrian tried to cross against the light in front of it, but was struck. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation continues. Clearly in this case the pedestrian was at fault. One of the major complaints that drivers have across other people that use the road is ignoring traffic laws. If you are using the road, you must obey all the traffic laws. Otherwise, you get unfortunate results like this one.  Here are some common complaints from drivers about pedestrians and cyclists on the road:

  • Crossing against lights and stop signs
  • Crossing in the middle of the road (jaywalking)
  • Taking up too much space on the road
  • Weaving between cars
  • Not yielding when required

But it’s not just pedestrians and cyclists that are the problem. Drivers also have their share of complaints including:

  • Passing too close (a major cause of accidents)
  • Yelling at cyclists and pedestrians out the window to scare them
  • Cutting them off
  • Failing to yield

It is important that everyone follow the rules of the road, no matter if they’re on foot or in a vehicle. When rules aren’t followed, then the legal system has to get involved. If you have been in an accident involving a pedestrian or a bicycle, we strongly urge you to call us after you get treatment for your injuries. Contrary to popular belief, just over half of accidents involving pedestrians are the result of pedestrian error rather than driver error. If you think you have no case, don’t believe it until you’ve talked with our legal team first. You can reach us through the link at the top of the page.
