Head-On Collision At Westpark and Hillcroft Avenue

When wrong-way crashes happen, it could be due to any of a number of factors.  The number of wrong-way accidents across the country has steadily increased in recent years. Whether it is due to driver inexperience, confusion or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, such accidents can be tragic. That may have been what happened on Wednesday afternoon on Westpark Drive that left one person dead and two severely injured.

According to a report appearing on the Click2 Houston website, the crash happened at approximately 2:00 p.m. near the intersection of Westpark and Hillcroft Avenue when a man who was traveling eastbound entered the westbound lanes of Westpark Drive. 

A spokesperson for the Houston Police Department issued a statement said that the silver sedan struck a small SUV with s a man and a woman inside.  Emergency crews arrived at the crash site and pronounced the wrong-way driver in the sedan dead at the scene.  

Officials have not released the identity of the driver pending notification of family.

The man and the woman inside the other vehicle were rushed to an area hospital and are listed in serious condition. 

Houston police investigators have not ruled out the influence of alcohol. The fatal crash is still currently under investigation.
