A high speed chase involving Houston Police left an innocent driver dead and three children critically injured according to Humble police. The Humble Police Department received a call at approximately 3:25 p.m. about a theft in progress at the Macy’s store at Deerbrook Mall. Police reports state that three women exited the store with over $2,600 worth of stolen merchandise and got into a waiting vehicle. Police officers on duty pulled up directly behind the vehicle, activating sirens and lights. The driver then fled the mall area and went southbound on Highway 59. Officers pursued the vehicle until they got off the highway and onto the off-ramp at Quitman. The driver of the suspects’ vehicle then ran a red light and broadsided an eastbound vehicle on Quitman. The force of the impact flipped the victim’s vehicle onto its roof. The female driver of the struck vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while three children, also inside the victim’s vehicle were transported to Be Taub hospital and are listed in critical condition. According to witnesses at the scene, the driver of the suspect vehicle jumped out of the car and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by police. The driver of the suspect vehicle, 21-year-old Shiquinta Franklin, now faces the charge of felony murder. The two other passengers in the suspect vehicle face theft charges.
