Judged Charged With DWI After Two Crashes, Ambien Blamed
A judge from Montgomery County has been charged with DWI for a crash that happened four months ago. Click2Houston.com reported on the matter.
The court says that Judge Mark Keough was under the influence of Ambien, a sleep aid, when he crashed twice in The Woodlands. One of the vehicles was a deputy constable’s cruiser. The police report says that Keough sideswiped one vehicle then swerved into the shoulder and struck the cruiser.
The vehicle computer showed that Keough was not wearing a seatbelt and didn’t brake until it was too late to avoid the crash. Keough required surgery and suffered broken bones after the incident.
After his recovery, Keough put out a statement on Facebook saying that there was no alcohol or illegal drugs in his system, and that his Ambien was legally prescribed and within normal therapeutic levels.
There are many drugs that have warnings on them to not operate heavy machinery until you know what they do for you. Stronger ones may say to never do it at all. They can cause drowsiness and disorientation and make it dangerous to drive.
You don’t have to be drinking or doing illegal drugs to be charged with DWI. You just need to be under the influence of a substance that makes you drive unsafely.
