Officer Involved in Hit and Run
Police officers are always at risk for road injuries. Guiding people to pull over safely and then conducting traffic stops puts them in dangerous situations every day. Most people have the sense to pull over to the side or slow down when they approach an officer at work. But sometimes a driver doesn’t pay attention.
An officer in northeast Houston has been the victim of a hit and run accident after a traffic stop. The vehicle in question smashed into the officer’s cruiser and pushed it into a fireworks stand. The impact was hard enough to push a board through the cruiser’s windshield.
The deputy’s knee was injured in the crash. Fortunately, the hit and run driver was soon caught hiding in a home. K9 units assisted in the capture. It is unknown whether or not the driver was intoxicated, but he is certain to be charged for the accident.
