One Person Injured in Texas Highway Accident

While we may not think it to be so, our U.S. highways are much safer than most other kinds of roads. The vast majority of vehicular accidents happen on city streets when drivers can easily run red lights or ignore the laws of right-of-way. Speedways, highways, freeways, and turnpikes are also incredibly dangerous because of the high speeds and the number of people entering and exiting the various lanes. Once you leave the city, however, many of our state and U.S. highways, as well as our interstate highways, are far safer despite the high speed we travel on them.

That said, the occasional rural highway accident does occur. Take, for example, this accident that happened last Thursday on U.S. Highway 60. An 85-year-old woman driving a 2008 Ford Edge was driving eastbound along the highway. According to state troopers, she attempted to overtake a big rig, a 2019 Kenworth, driven by a 55-year-old man.

As the Edge attempted to return to the right lane but the smaller car was struck by the tractor-trailer in the process. This caused the Edge to run off the right side of the highway. The Ford sustained moderate damage while the Kenworth had only minor damage from the incident.

The driver of the Edge did have some minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.

Thankfully, both drivers were wearing seat belts, and no one was seriously injured. This story came to us via this report from the Houston Herald.
