Pickup Crashes into Stopped Semi
Many accidents have been caused by unlit or poorly illuminated roadways. That was the case when a truck carrying three young people were injured in an accident involving their vehicle and an 18-wheeler stopped in the middle of the roadway,
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. when a female driver and two passengers crashed her Dodge Dakota pickup truck into a semi-tractor trailer rig that was stopped in the eastbound lanes of an unlit section of Beaumont Highway in Houston.
The driver of the big rig had apparently gotten out to open a gate at the business where he was scheduled to deliver his cargo. The driver of the pickup attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the big rig. She lost control and her vehicle slid into the back of the 18-wheeler.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene and were able to extract all three victims from the demolished pickup truck. A 22-year-old female passenger in the truck was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in serious but stable condition. The female driver and a male passenger were transported to an area hospital by
Investigators say that there was no alcohol involved in the accident. The driver of the big rig was unhurt in the crash; however, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that he will be cited for the accident.
This accident may have been caused by a poorly lit roadway. It may also have been that the driver of the 18-wheeler failed to engage his hazard lights or the rig may not have been properly outfitted with running lights so that other drivers could clearly see it. In any case, this situation will likely end up in court in order to determine just who it is that pays for the damages, the injuries and the aftermath of the crash.
