Rider Killed in Crash After Running Light

A motorcyclist has died after he ran a red light and struck another vehicle in Houston early Thursday morning.  Houston Police Department officers reported that the crash occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Elgin and Hamilton Streets. According to eyewitness accounts given to officers, the motorcyclist was apparently traveling eastbound on Elgin when he ran the light, hitting a Toyota Camry heading southbound. Witnesses also told local reporters that the biker was thrown at least 10 to 15 feet into the air as a result of the impact before his body hit the ground. One Good Samaritan attempted to perform CPR on the victim, but was unsuccessful.  Even though the motorcyclist had been wearing a helmet, the force of the impact at which he struck the other vehicle was too great. Investigators pronounced the biker dead at the scene of the accident. The Toyota Camry’s female driver was not injured in the accident; however, police said that she may be facing other charges not related to the accident. Riding a motorcycle on streets and highways means that you are more exposed to more dangers on the road than other drivers are. All of the elements and hazards of the road can potentially cause very serious injuries or even a tragic fatality. Motorcycles, the same as any other vehicles, are expected to obey the rules of the road. Many drivers have a tendency to just not see motorcycles a. It is because of this that motorcyclists should be even more diligent about the rules of the road.
