Stolen Vehicles can Still Cause You Injury

Stolen vehicles may still put you in an insurance fightOn April 23, Click2Houston’s news team reported that two men crashed a stolen pickup truck into a local Northeast Houston convenience store on Lyon’s Street. The two unidentified men first attempted to pry the burglar bars off the front of the store with a crowbar and then crashed the truck through the glass doors of the store at about 4:30 AM.  The manager of the store said that he believed were after cash because the objective of the robbery appears to have been to steal the ATM machine inside. The two men got away from the crime scene in a waiting black sedan, abandoning the truck before police arrived. The manager said that it will likely cost tens of thousands of dollars in order to repair the business after the incident. Vehicles are stolen in Houston at the rate of more than 25 per day. Automobile owners can reduce the amount of risk that you expose yourself to by always locking your vehicle or using a deterrent. Of course there are car alarms, steering wheel or brake locks. But other features such as passive immobilizers require a specific key to operate the vehicle and can turn the vehicle off remotely. Without the key, the car or truck needs to be towed. Such devices have cut the number of auto thefts in half. Safety and security systems such as those available through Lojack and OnStar boast a nearly 95% recovery rate of a vehicle. But even if your vehicle is recovered after being stolen, if your vehicle is involved in a major crime, such as a hit and run accident, it could mean more headaches for you. Insurance may not cover these situations, or an insurance company may try to give you less than you deserve depending on the circumstances of the theft.  If you have had your vehicle stolen and it has been involved in a crime, we encourage you to call our offices today with the details of the case.
