Vehicle Hauler Overturns Near Hegar Road, Driver Killed
Thousands of people are killed each year in accidents involving commercial trucks or big rigs. If an 18-wheeler is carrying heavy cargo or if the load shifts, it can cause a dangerous situation in which that load ends up onto the roadway or on other vehicles that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
ABC 13 in Houston reports that such an accident happened just north of Hockley on Monday, which resulted in the death of the driver of a car transport truck.
Ed Gonzalez of the Harris County Sheriff’s Department told ABC that the accident happened in the afternoon when the big rig went off the roadway of FM 2920 near Hegar Road.
An initial investigation of the fatal crash indicates that for an undetermined reason, the driver of the 18-wheeler veered to the left. The truck that was hauling five vehicles at the time struck an SUV and rolled onto its side in a nearby field.
The crash caused three of the vehicles being transported to flip and overturn the cab that was hauling the car carrier trailer.
Emergency crews, including Life Flight, were called to respond to the crash. Authorities pronounced the driver of the big rig dead at the scene.
His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
