Woman Dies In Accident During Motorcycle Safety Course
A woman from the suburbs of Chicago was killed after being in an accident during a motorcycle safety course.
The Houston Chronicle reports that the class was being given on the campus of Harper College in Palatine, Illinois, when the 66-year-old woman was in a single-vehicle accident in a parking lot.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as Carol Counelis, of Winfield, Illinois. Officials say that she was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Harper College spokeswoman Kimberly Pohl said in a statement to reporters that approximately one hour following the crash on the afternoon of Saturday, October 3rd, Counelis was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
She later died as a result of the injuries she suffered in the crash. Counelis had been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
According to Pohl, the motorcycle safety training class that Counelis had enrolled in was being offered through the college by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Cycle Rider Safety Training Program. The course extends for a period of three consecutive Saturdays. Students attending the current session were halfway through the second day of the safety course when the crash happened.
The crash is currently under investigation by both the Harper College campus police and detectives with the Palatine Police Department
