Woman Falls Off of Jetski, Hits Piling

A young woman in her early 20’s was transported to the hospital following a jet ski accident Tuesday evening. According to eyewitness reports, two women had been jet skiiing at approximately 5:30 p.m. in Clear Creek near the 1000 block of Highway 3 when the passenger on the jet ski fell off the watercraft and possibly hit her head on a piling. Another jet skier saw the woman and called for help. The injured woman was taken to Clear Creek Regional Medical Center. Highway 3 near the scene of the accident had been temporarily shut down, but was later reopened to traffic. Residents and tourists alike enjoy the waterways we have here in the State of Texas. Because Texas boasts miles of both coastal and inland waterways, there are always opportunities for recreational fun and enjoyment on the water. But with increased numbers of boats and other types of watercraft on our lakes, rivers and coastal areas, also comes increased chances for having an accident. Rarely do we even think about the potential dangers that can happen in a boating or personal watercraft accident. Boats, jet skis and other motorized watercraft are more powerful than many think they are. They can injure riders, passengers and swimmers in the water. The speed and maneuverability that make jet skis and other watercraft fun on the water often increase the risk of accidents. A jet ski is much like a motorcycle on the water rather than on the road. Each year, Texas residents are seriously injured or even killed in boat and other watercraft accidents. While in many of these accidents, alcohol is involved, other cases there are other factors to consider such as negligence, equipment failure due to unsafe or faulty equipment, driver inexperience or carelessness of both the boat driver and the passenger. The medical costs of recovery from waterway accidents can be astronomical. For some accident victims, this can mean long term care as well as pain and suffering.
