Wrong-Way DUI Driver Brings Tragedy To Couple

Wrong-way driving on the freeway is bad enough. But combine it with DUI and the problem becomes much worse. One is dead and two are in the hospital after a crash in Houston involving these factors. The Houston Chronicle has the story.

Police say that a couple were on their way home from a wedding when a DUI driver came up the wrong side of the Sam Houston Tollway and crashed into them. Both cars caught fire. Police and bystanders were able to rescue the alleged drunk driver and the wife, but the husband was burned in the crash. The wife is in a coma.

The accused driver’s blood was tested and found to be 0.284, over three time the legal limit. If convicted, he faces 20 years in prison.

We hope that the wife and her family can get compensation for what happened. This is a senseless accident. Hopefully insurance or the accused can cover the costs.
