18 Year Sentence for Role in Crash
Anyone can make a bad choice in life. Sometimes, those poor choices can have lasting and permanent ramifications. Such was the case of a man who was recently sentenced by the Court to 18 years in prison for his role in a crash that killed the passenger in his vehicle and injured a Harris County Sheriff’s deputy.
According to official records, Liobardo Reyes and his girlfriend, Iconne Bello, were out enjoying the club scene October 19, 2014. The two were intoxicated when Reyes got behind the wheel of the car and crashed head-on into the cruiser of a Harris County deputy.
Bello died as the result of the injuries she sustained in the crash while Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy, D. Johnson, recovered from his injuries.
Reyes was charged with and convicted of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
At the sentencing portion of his trial, Reyes addressed the family and apologized to them for his actions.
Liobardo Hayes is going to have a long time to think about what he did because he was held accountable for his actions. Even with his conviction, his ordeal may not be over. He may also be charged with civil damages and wrongful death by the surviving family members.
