Fatal Accident at a Red Light

A woman has been killed after running a red light in the West Houston area Thursday night. The accident happened at the intersection of Rogerdale and Westheimer. Investigators say the woman’s SUV was clipped by another SUV when she ran a red light, causing her vehicle to flip over.

Investigators say that the driver of the second vehicle had initially left the scene, however, they did eventually return and call 911 after the crash.  When emergency crews arrived on the scene, the woman was pronounced dead.

Houston police authorities have not stated whether the other driver  will be charged for leaving the scene of the accident. Even though the other vehicle ran a red light, the driver of the second vehicle may face consequences of their own.   Failure to stop after being involved in a crash can be a serious matter.

An accident can happen at any time, and quite unexpectedly. If an accident involves any kind of serious injury or a fatality, the charge of Fleeing the Scene of an accident can have very serious consequences. A driver who leaves the scene of an accident, in the state of Texas, and especially if the accident ends involves any sort of serious injury, property damage or death, may have committed a crime that would be considered a third degree felony. If convicted, this charge is punishable up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $5,000 plus damages, or all of the above. An offender may also face other costs imposed by the court such as community service, probation and restitution orders.
