Grisly Car Attack in Houston

A “person of interest” is still at large after he allegedly ran over a woman a total of four times in southeast Houston on Sunday night leaving her critically injured.

According to police, a man ran over San Juanita Herrera several times at approximately 11:00 p.m. at an apartment complex parking lot located at 6767 Long Street.

Authorities have managed to locate the pickup truck that was used in the vehicular assault; however, the HPD is still searching for the driver in the case.

Homicide investigator, Sgt. Joshua Horn with the Houston Police Department said in a statement that witnesses to the incident said that San Juanita Herrera had been standing near the complex entrance when the driver of a gray Nissan Frontier pickup truck ran over her. The suspect then drove to another part of the parking lot, revved his engine, and ran over her for a second time. He then put the vehicle in reverse and ran over her a third time. The driver finally sped out of the parking lot, but not before running over Herrera for a fourth time.

Herrera told witnesses who rushed to help her that the man who ran over her was a former coworker. Horn only described the man as being in his 50s or 60s.

Herrera, believed to be in her late 30s, was rushed by ambulance to an area hospital. Officials have not released the details of her injuries, but did state that she is currently in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup was last seen in a gray 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup with a camper which was later found by investigators. Police have not said where the vehicle was found.

Authorities have also not said what may have led to the incident.

It is hard to imagine what kind of person would callously hit another person with their vehicle and then flee the scene of an accident. For someone to run over another person a number of times is almost unfathomable. It isn’t likely that it will take the police very long to find this hit-and-run driver, especially if the vehicle belongs to them and is registered in their name.

Once this person is caught, he will be facing a host of criminal charges along with civil charges where the victim and her family can seek damages for any injuries, medical bills, ongoing treatment, lost income, and pain and suffering.
