Hospitalization After Big Rig Crash
Whenever anyone is behind the wheel, it is important to be aware and to follow all posted traffic signs and directions. Even when people take every precaution to be safe, however, accidents can and will happen. Everyone knows that getting behind the wheel after drinking is to be avoided at all costs. However, it is possible that may have been exactly what may have happened the very early morning hours on Houston’s northwest side when police were called to an accident.
According to an article appearing on the Houston Chronicle website, the driver of a vehicle allegedly failed to stop at an intersection. This sent two people to the hospital after the car slammed into an 18-wheeler.
Authorities say that the accident happened at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Kempwood and Blankenship. The big rig had already made its way across the road when it was struck by the passenger vehicle. The smaller vehicle slid under the trailer portion of the 18-wheeler. The man and woman inside the car were pinned and required the help of rescuers from the Houston Fire Department to extract them from the wreckage.
The couple was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The truck driver was uninjured in the accident.
Authorities have not released the names of anyone involved in the accident. Houston Police Department investigators are currently trying to determine whether or not alcohol may have played a role in the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
