T-Bone Crash Leads To Death And Arrest
One person has been killed another one has been injured while a third has been arrested following an accident early Saturday morning in northwest Harris County.
The Chron.com website reports that Marco Antonio Frias,41, and his 19-year-old son were in a black Lincoln Town Car heading westbound in the 1800 block of West Mount Houston at approximately 3:00 a.m. when an alleged drunk driver in a Hyundai Elantra ran a red light at the intersection at Veteran’s Memorial Drive.
According to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, the Elantra T-boned the Lincoln on the passenger side of the vehicle, killing the father. Frias was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The 19-year-old had been driving the vehicle at the time of the fatal crash and suffered only minor injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai has been identified as Andres Valdez, 24. Harris County Sheriff’s deputies also indicated that Valdez smelled strongly of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. Valdez refused field sobriety tests and a blood draw to determine his blood-alcohol level. A warrant was later issued for the alcohol tests to be performed.
Valdez was taken before a Harris County magistrate judge and was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a motor vehicle.
We hope that the family of the slain victim can achieve justice and due compensation in this terrible incident. Those who drive drunk often pull all responsibility for a crash onto themselves.
