Truck Plunges over Seawall, Injures Family
Galveston priest Rev. John Paul Flajole had family members fly in from around the country to celebrate his 50th anniversary as a priest. Flajole’s sixty-two year old brother, a dentist from Lake Orion, Michigan, was a part of the celebrations and had been taking photos near the stairway of Murdoch’s Souvenirs around 7 a.m. when a red Ford pickup truck turning onto Seawall Boulevard cut across all lanes of traffic and hit them on the sidewalk. The truck rolled onto the beach where it finally stopped.
According to police reports, Flajole’s brother died at the scene and Shane Sabala, a forty-eight year old, was also injured was transported to the John Sealy Emergency Room for treatment. The driver of the red Ford, forty-nine year old Kevin Wade Wilson, was charged on Sunday with manslaughter and aggravated assault. The charges carried bonds of $500,000 and $250,000, respectively, according to the Galveston Police Department. Wilson is also believed to be on probation for a previous narcotics conviction. Investigations are still ongoing and the authorities are trying to determine if Wilson was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
