Cyclist Left for Dead in Fatal Hit and Run
A fatal hit-and-run accident has left a bicyclist dead in northeast Harris County last Tuesday night.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Offices, deputies received a call of the accident at approximately 9:15 p.m. The incident happened in the 17400 block of Beaumont Highway. When Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, they found an unconscious male lying in the roadway that had been struck by a vehicle.
While the impact was not heard, witnesses to the incident said that they saw someone get out of a red and white SUV and then get back in and flee the scene of the accident.
The bicyclist was airlifted to an area hospital where he later died as the result of the injuries he sustained in the accident. His name has not been released by authorities.
Some of the worst accidents are those involving a hit and run. Whether it is either indifference or fear that causes a person to run after hitting and injuring another pedestrian, motorist or bicyclist, it’s a serious charge when you are caught.
It’s tragic that someone could hit another person and then callously leave the scene of the accident. There is no doubt that once the driver is found, they will face serious consequences such as excessive fines, jail time and also the very good chance of a civil law suit filed on behalf of the family of this cyclist. The courts will more than likely side with the family because of it being a hit-and-run case.
