Rear-End Accident Turns Into Fatal Hit-and-Run on Gulf Freeway

A woman was killed in the 8400 block along the southbound Gulf Freeway early Saturday morning.

According to a story that appeared on the Chron.com website, a man driving a black Chevy Camaro rear-ended a silver Ford F-150 pickup, which in turn was pushed into the rear end of a black Chevy Trailblazer in a chain reaction crash.

The force of the crash caused a woman who had been riding in the back of the  Trailblazer to be ejected from the vehicle.  The driver and the passenger who had been riding in the Camaro jumped out of their vehicle and fled on foot.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released her name pending notification of kin.

After the tragedy of a fatal multi-vehicle accident or one where someone is seriously injured, determining who is at fault can be difficult. In this accident, because the driver and passenger of one of those vehicles decided to flee the scene, both of those individuals will face very serious consequences as a result. It’s only a matter of time before law enforcement catches up to them.

In the state of Texas, leaving the scene of an accident where injury or death has occurred is considered a third-degree felony and is punishable between 2 – 10 years in state prison as well as serious fines of up to $5000 or both.  Even if the injuries had not been serious, the failure to remain at the scene of an accident and failure to render aid is a felony with jail time from one to five years in the county jail.
