Three Teens Caught Setting Bombs
Three juveniles have been identified by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies and are being accused of engaging in a spree of acid bombs over the weekend.
A total of 9 acid bombs were recovered in the area of FM 2978 and Woodlands Parkway. They were thrown at homes, golf courses and vehicles.
The homemade bombs were made from plastic bottles filled with chemicals and foil or metal objects. A chemical reaction causes the bottles to explode when they are shaken or disturbed.
Residents of Woodlands became more concerned when a homeowner was injured when he picked up an acid bomb thrown at his front door. When he picked up the bomb, it blew up in his hand. The man was treated for injuries and was released.
Sheriff’s deputies said in a statement that key evidence had been recovered in the neighborhood that led them to the three suspects. Store surveillance video was also released showing the three juveniles purchasing the materials that were later recovered at the crime scenes.
Because they are juveniles, the three youths will be referred to the Montgomery County Juvenile Justice Center. An investigation is still pending to determine whether others might be involved in the crimes.
Even juveniles can face serious charges for criminal mischief. In the state of Texas, a person may be in court to answer to the charge of criminal mischief if it is shown that they did willfully, intentionally or knowingly damaged someone else’s property, or they did willfully, intentionally or knowingly tampered with someone’s property that causes a loss, inconvenience or made marks, such as graffiti or inscriptions or drawings on their property. Because there were injuries involved in this crime, these youths could be tried as adults and face even stiffer penalties. When explosives are used, there are very serious consequences involved depending on the nature of the crime and the damage or injury caused.
