Man Leads Police on High-speed Chase for an Hour

Houston Police were led on a chase with a suspect that went through downtown Houston, a railroad yard, and several neighborhoods on the east side of the city that ended in an arrest of the suspect.

The chase began at approximately around 3 p.m. near Almeda and West Airport in southwest Houston and went on for nearly an hour. The suspect attempted to flee from police by first jumping on Highway 288, but police maintained their pursuit to the 59 feeder road and past Minute Maid Park, and then headed toward the I-10 Eastbound.

Law enforcement did throw out spike strips at one intersection in an attempt to slow down the vehicle, but it did not slow the gray SUV being driven by the suspect.

During the chase, the driver of the fleeing vehicle narrowly escaped crashing into a black pickup truck that was stalled as well as a school bus.

The suspect drove then drove through a railroad yard and along the top of railroad tracks for several minutes before finally abandoning his vehicle.

It was not until around 4 p.m. that the fleeing suspect finally pulled over. He then continued on foot, running into a residential neighborhood located east of Lockwood. An officer with a stun gun was finally able to capture the subject and placed him under arrest.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, stated to police that he ran because of several outstanding tickets.

High-speed driving and police pursuits can be extremely dangerous. When emergency vehicles are rushing to or from an accident or in pursuit of someone trying to evade being caught, such incidents can lead to serious accidents. Sometimes injuries can happen not only to the officers of the law and the suspects that are in the chase, but also to unsuspecting civilians as well.

Many motorists will be pulled over by a police officer at least once in their lives for things such as breaking a speed limit, a taillight out, or perhaps outstanding tickets. Never be tempted to run when being pulled over. The cost of causing a potential accident in addition to any other charges you may face can be serious. Accidents can potentially happen in a split second, especially in high traffic or metropolitan areas.
