One Person Dies In A Crash On Interstate 10
Police were called to the 1100 block of Interstate 10 in response to the scene of an accident early Wednesday morning, and one person is reported to have died in the crash.
Station KHOU reports that investigators with the Houston Police Department believe that approximately 12:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29th, a driver in the eastbound lanes of the Interstate lost control of their car.
As they got out of their car to check for any damage to their vehicle, a second motorist stopped and advised the first driver to wait inside their car. As the second motorist pulled away from the side of the road and dialed 911, officials say that they heard a loud crash behind them.
Officials say that the driver of another eastbound vehicle was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the stranded motorist who was reportedly still standing in the roadway, looking for damage to their car.
Officer W.L. Barrow, with the Houston Police Department, told KHOU reporters that the accident is still currently under investigation. So far, the accident investigation team has not determined whether impairment by drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the fatal crash.
The Interstate highway was shut down for several hours while police conducted the investigation. The roadway was reopened to morning commuters at approximately 5:00 a.m.
